Literature Text

Soldier, you're no more to fight.
Sleep softly in the ground.
Never more to tremble or quake
Beneath the awful sound
Of screams
And bombs
And angel songs
Within the dismal cloud.
Soldier, rest forever now,
You've made your people proud.

Soldier sent so far away,
Would not be home again.
Suffered every day
Amongst the horror and the pain
Of loss surrounding,
Fire raining down
To scorch and sear.
Soldier, slumber peacefully,
There's nothing now to fear.

To those who rule, on high, the world,
Ever commanding death.
Trampling over all the land
To feed your senseless wealth.
Ask the crimson petals
That have flourished from demise,
If your power is worth
Even the earth
In which your soldier lies.

what great work. i love the variations on the rhyming, that it's not too rhymie-whymie. (if that even makes sense.) makes me think of veteran's day, but then it makes me think of all the stuff i've seen on television relating to the war in iraq and afghanistan.
